About
One Cumberland
A non-profit organization founded by the Cumberland Community Improvement District (CID) designed to bolster its work and enhancement of projects by broadening its reach, funding, and impact.
Since the Cumberland CID’s inception in 1988, commercial property owners have invested in critical infrastructure improvements that have enhanced access in Cumberland through the construction of roads, bridges, streetscapes, multi-use trails, pedestrian paths, and recreational properties throughout the Cumberland area. This includes connecting to the region’s national parkland, beautifying the corridor with gateways, signage, landscaping and much more. These investments have helped Cumberland develop into one of Atlanta’s largest employment centers and Cobb County’s premiere business, cultural and entertainment destination.
Today Cumberland is a thriving community made-up of more than 3,400 businesses that support 84,000 employees, 30,000 residents and thousands of visitors each year who enjoy the many assets found in Cumberland. Cumberland is also one of the most diverse Districts in Cobb County with the demographic makeup of 40% white, 39% black, and 13% Asian. 9% identify as Latino.
By strengthening and elevating these assets, the new non-profit, One Cumberland, will help build upon the unique character of Cumberland’s urban burb. Whether it is bringing together the right stakeholders to fund a park project or engaging diverse neighborhoods to activate creative art amenities, One Cumberland will be the connection that will unite the community as it continues to grow and flourish.
Created by Constitutional Amendment, CIDs have the unique ability to partner with county, state, and federal agencies to plan, fund and deliver key infrastructure and transportation projects. Aligning a non-profit with the CID’s goals will allow for greater flexibility for community involvement and funding opportunities. One Cumberland will have the ability to accept donations from public and private foundations, private companies, and individuals as well as conduct capital campaigns for projects that enhance the Cumberland community.
